The Challenge: Providing students with disabilities easy access to notes and supporting the teaching process using digital technology.

Elementary School No. 2 in Ozimek follows an educational model centered on the integration of healthy students with those facing various disabilities. Nearly 30% of the students have been diagnosed with various learning difficulties. Many students also suffer from chronic illnesses requiring long-term hospitalization or rehabilitation stays, leading to frequent absences and learning gaps. The school needed a simple tool to transmit lesson content and facilitate learning for students who, due to their disabilities, are unable to create complete and clear notes on their own.

Solution: Modern technology, accessible to everyone. ShareTheBoard is an application for the digital transmission and recording of content from traditional whiteboards; it requires no special technical skills and functions without the need for third-party assistance.

  • In November 2025, a pilot program was launched involving over 30 teachers and all students in grades 4–8.
  • The software license and necessary equipment were provided, and installation was handled by our company’s technical staff in close cooperation with the administration and the school’s IT specialist.
  • To ensure effective implementation and maximize the application’s potential, training sessions were conducted, auxiliary materials were provided, and the initial usage process was closely monitored.
  • By gathering feedback from students, teachers, and parents – all of whom were deeply involved in the process – the application was tailored to meet the specific needs of the institution.

ShareTheBoard is based on a very simple technical architecture: a standard webcam pointed at a traditional whiteboard and a school laptop or desktop computer are all that is required. This approach simplifies deployment and reduces costs, provided the school possesses the basic hardware.

The rapid and effective implementation of ShareTheBoard revealed several applications and advantages that enhance the teaching process within this specific facility.

Benefits of the application from the students' perspective

  • Real-time tracking of whiteboard notes

Students can follow the lesson and copy notes regardless of their location—whether in the classroom or elsewhere—without needing assistance from others. Simultaneously, the school emphasizes that it does not promote the general use of smartphones or tablets during class; exceptions are made only for justified situations involving students with diagnosed educational needs and with the teacher’s consent.

Additionally, ShareTheBoard displayed a real-time preview of the board on an interactive display at the other end of the room, improving visibility for students sitting further away—particularly in classrooms with horseshoe-shaped seating arrangements.

  • Accessibility and legible notes for individuals with impairments
    • → Students with visual impairments: Those with significant visual challenges can read notes written by the teacher by zooming in on the image via a tablet or laptop. This allows them to participate in the lesson freely and effectively.
    • → Students with specific learning difficulties (dyslexia, dysorthography): Now when notes are in digital form, students gain new ways to use them. The content from the board is securely saved and organized chronologically, which eliminates gaps in their personal notes – gaps that often result from the teacher’s writing pace not matching the students’ ability to take notes.
    • → Students with physical disabilities (e.g., cerebral palsy): Students receive complete notes without having to write them manually, photocopy them, or rely on others to reproduce them.
    • → Students with attention or concentration disorders (e.g., ADHD, autism, depression): The application allows students to quickly and efficiently review digital notes, compare them with their own, and supplement any missing information.
  • Anywhere access to notes

Notes can be accessed on any device (including mobile), which significantly facilitates studying. Students missing school due to illness can stay updated with whiteboard content in real time, whether from home or a hospital bed. This helps them stay connected to the curriculum and use their study time effectively.

  • Support for self-directed learning

Utilizing built-in artificial intelligence features, the application can generate additional content based on digital notes – entirely at the discretion of the teacher, of course. The ability to generate summaries, questions, and practice tasks is particularly helpful for independent exam or test preparation.

  • Rapid adoption and positive student attitude

Students are eager to use new technologies and have responded positively to working with ShareTheBoard.

What do the students think?

“I’m glad we have this app. I don’t worry anymore if I don’t have time to copy everything from the board. I think it will also be helpful when I’m sick.”
— Emilia, 5th-grade student

Benefits of the application from the teachers' perspective

  • Saving time and effort

One of a teacher’s duties is providing materials to help students master the curriculum. Photocopying and adapting notes for students with impairments is time-consuming – time that can now be spent on active exercises with the class.

  • Board Memory

Many teachers create notes only on the board and lack physical copies. Digital archiving allows teachers to access their past work, providing opportunities to modify and improve content for future classes. For those teaching multiple parallel classes, ShareTheBoard helps maintain consistency and organization.

  • Modern classroom solutions

Students engage more readily with modern technology, so teachers constantly seek tools that make lessons more attractive while remaining simple and flexible. While many educational apps exist, they are often expensive or difficult to adapt to real-world classroom needs.

During the pilot, several teachers noted an unexpected but practical benefit: the ability to divide the board into sections and work in four groups simultaneously. This feature, supported by intelligent annotations appearing directly on the board, proved to be a valuable tool for organizing teamwork. These observations are vital; the pilot allows us to see how teachers actually use the app and identify the unique benefits they discover in daily practice.

What do the teachers think?

“For me, the key is the genuine improvement in accessibility. The fact that a student can view notes in real time but also return to them calmly after class represents a completely new quality of teaching. No one is stressed about running out of time to copy a solution. A further benefit is the excellent integration with our interactive whiteboard, ensuring even students in the back rows see everything as clearly as those in the front.”
— Jolanta Lipska, Mathematics Teacher

“We are extremely satisfied with the results of the ShareTheBoard pilot. This technology aligns perfectly with our school’s mission of inclusive education and equal opportunity. The app did more than just solve the problem of learning gaps and illegible notes; it significantly improved the comfort of learning for our students with impairments. I strongly encourage other schools, especially integrated ones, to adopt solutions that eliminate barriers so effectively.”
— Anna Gaszczyk, Director of Elementary School No. 2 in Ozimek

Benefits of the application from the parents' perspective

  • Transparency for parents
In early education, parental support and monitoring are crucial. Prior to the app’s implementation, parents – especially those of students with impairments – often felt overwhelmed. Incomplete or illegible notes made it difficult to help children prepare for class. Now, parents can access current and archived notes directly through the digital school diary.

  • Reduced stress during absences
Catching up after an absence due to illness or hospitalization previously required borrowing notebooks, bothering other students, and waiting for notes that might be inaccurate or hard to read. ShareTheBoard eliminates this stress; parents get immediate, full, and digitally clear access to lesson content, allowing for a smooth recovery of missed material without involving third parties.
What do the parents think?

“ShareTheBoard is a huge help for parents. My child didn’t always have complete notes, and I couldn’t make sense of them. I used to feel frustrated trying to help my son study for a test. Now, I can review the board content second by second. Even if he has a cold, he can study from bed, which means we actually have some free time for ourselves in the evening.”
— Elżbieta, mother of a 4th-grade student

Feedback, challenges, and improvements to ShareTheBoard

Every implementation provides us with invaluable data from teachers to further refine the app for schools and students. This pilot presented technical challenges that we addressed quickly with our development team.

  • Challenge: Remote Control function – automation and reliability.

A key element was the Remote Control feature, which allows ShareTheBoard sessions to start automatically without teacher intervention. This was designed to reduce the workload on staff and ensure students have constant access to notes when needed.

The pilot at Elementary School No. 2 in Ozimek was one of the first large-scale tests of this feature in a live environment. It served as a testing ground that helped us – working with teachers and the school’s IT team – optimize the automatic start mechanisms and connection stability. These insights resulted in a more reliable, fully automated solution now used by schools worldwide.

  • Challenge: Hardware and external factors.

Implementing educational technology involves more than just software; it requires the right hardware and environmental conditions. The Ozimek pilot highlighted the importance of selecting the right equipment and placing it correctly in the classroom. We actively advised on hardware configuration and found solutions tailored to local conditions. These experiences have led us to evaluate alternative implementation models and hardware recommendations to eliminate similar hurdles in the future. Consequently, ShareTheBoard is evolving into a comprehensive implementation solution that accounts for the realities of modern schools.

  • Challenge: Privacy concerns and tech-hesitancy.

Initial meetings revealed concerns about privacy since the camera is directed toward the front of the room. We clarified that ShareTheBoard does not record images of teachers or students (or, indeed, any personally identifiable information); it only captures the content written on the board.

This assurance allows teachers to use the tool without fear of private interactions being shared online or recorded unintentionally.

Summary and next steps:

The pilot at Elementary School No. 2 in Ozimek proved that modern technology does not have to be complex to be revolutionary. Implementing ShareTheBoard has become a cornerstone of the school’s inclusive education strategy.

The application has successfully increased engagement among students with disabilities. Visual impairments, fine motor struggles, and illness-related absences are no longer insurmountable barriers to knowledge. Moreover, this solution has been enthusiastically received not only by students in need of support, but also by a significant portion of the school community, teachers who appreciate the convenience of digital tools and parents who gain peace of mind and insight into their children’s education.

The success in the initial classroom has cleared the path for expanding accessibility to other classes, utilizing grants and subsidies designated for disability support.
